Our Work

We have been learning about 'Hot and Cold' this week in room 3. Matthew and Lily are completing a worksheet writing the letter 'H' beside hot items and 'C' beside cold items. We learned that things can change when heated or cooled  -  and ice cream melts and water will become frozen.
We have been learning a lot about money. We have been studying euros and cents and playing shop with some money during Aistear. Diarmuid (below) shows us a one cent coin, we have learned that one cent will not buy you much in the shop but 100 one cents makes €1 and that will buy plenty!!
Jamie really enjoyed listening to the story 'Rírá i seomra na Naíonán' during our Seachtain na Spraoi! We have also been learning about Cois Trá and An Teilifís.

During Aistear this week we have been exploring magnets through sand play. Each group were given the opportunity to play in the sand together with the magnets. We all enjoyed finding out which side the magnets were drawn to and some of us even brought in some magnets of our own. We look forward to completing a magnets hunt within our classroom next week!

Diarmuid & Nadine (above) and Fionnán & Aoife (below) were busy writing a sentence about The Postman. We have been learning all about people who help us and each group completed a writing activity based on The Postman, The Police and The Lollipop Lady, We are getting really good at coming up with sentences independently and completing writing from the board.

It is May already and we are continuing with our hard work in Junior Infants! Can you believe that we only have 2 months left of school?
We are learning all about The Frog Life Cycle & Shopping this week and have been completing some super work during Aistear. Take a look below at some of our Aistear stations to check out what we have been getting up to!

Sophia (above) and Beth (below) were labeling the stages of The Frog Life Cycle from 1-4 at their Aistear station on Tuesday! Looking great girls!

The group pictured above were playing a co-operative game called the 'Shopping List'game. We had to take turns, remember where the pictures we needed were and filled up our trollies!

There was a shop set up down at the back of our classroom. We pretended to be workers in the shop, shopkeeper and customers! Teacher even visited our shop to buy some fruit and vegetables! Aoife is pictured here taking an order over the phone!

We have been learning about the frog life cycle from frogspawn to tadpole to tadpole with legs to frog! We have also been learning about different types of shops and shops that are in Clones! We discussed where we like to shop and what we like to buy with a partner :-)

Last Friday we had some beautiful spring weather here in Clones! Ms Mc Carville and Ms Beggan decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to go on a nature walk and find some signs of spring within our local natural environment. We have been learning all about spring time so now it was time to see if we could find some signs of spring! We spotted some beautiful new flowers growing, could hear baby birds singing and enjoyed the heat that the spring sun brought!
Lily, Simas, Justina and Michael lead the way!
Happy Faces on our Nature Walk!

Beth and Tyler spot some new daffodils growing.
Happy Faces from Junior Infants! :-)

World Book Day! - To celebrate World Book Day 2017, Ms Lalor's class joined us to read some books and stories. Junior Infants were delighted to welcome fourth class into our classroom to read and chat with us. The older children read some books to us but we were able to point out some familiar words and letters to them! (We think they were very impressed!!). Take a look at some of the photo's of us reading together below :-)

We received our 'Sow and Grow' pots last week and we were so excited to begin planting! We decided to wait until after the mid-term break before planting our baby carrots, runner beans and cress seeds. We have all enjoyed getting our hands dirty during Aistear this week and planting our seeds. Each day we will water the seeds and monitor our plant growth. In a few weeks we will have some delicious runner beans, baby carrots and cress to eat and share!

We are learning all about plants this week! In the video below Lily explains the parts of a plant and what plants need to grow! Next week we will be planting runner beans, baby carrots and cress seeds in our 'Sow and Grow' pots! We just can't wait to watch our plants grow!

Justina, Michael, Nadine and Jamie worked together to complete a tricky alphabet jigsaw and put it back together in the correct order. Good team work!

Darius and Matthew were labeling the parts of a plant today during Aistear!
Fionnán's group were pretending to be baby animals enjoying playing outside in the fresh spring air at their Aistear station today

In Junior Infants we have been doing some 'Cosmic Yoga'. On a Friday morning, before break time, we take some time out to share our happy thoughts for the weekend ahead and complete some cosmic yoga. We stretch out, find a space on the floor and follow the instructions from the whiteboard. We love this time on a Friday and then enjoy our small break calmly, sitting beside someone new on this day. Yoga promotes mindfulness, calm and specific breathing techniques designed to enable concentration on focus. Try it at home! Junior Infants will be able to show off all their new yoga poses.

We have been learning all about 'Houses & Homes'! Some of us live in detached houses, terraced houses, semi-detached houses, bungalows and many others! We have been learning about all off the different types of houses and homes, rooms within the house and homes in other countries. We read the story of The 3 Little Pigs and discussed the types of houses they built!

Donncha is showing us different types of houses!

Sienna, Sophia, Beth and Nadine are busy decorating crowns fit for princesses!

Lily is taking great care creating her crown!
The boys are busy painting and decorating animal masks!

 Such pretty princesses!

This week we have been learning all about 'Growing and Changing'. We have learned that we have changed a lot since we were babies. We can now do lots of things that we needed help with when we were smaller. We brought in baby photos to look at and discuss how our looks and appearance have changed and to show friends what we looked like when we were babies! Have a look below at our then and now photographs. I think you'll agree that the baby photos are very cute and Junior Infants have grown up a lot indeed!

Fionnán has got much bigger and even more cute!

Beth has become very grown up and says she can now run and jump!
Matthew brought in lots of baby photos and it was tricky to pick just two!
